Police say one person is dead and three others were hospitalized after a pickup truck crossed over into oncoming lanes of traffic and hit a sedan near Waukegan Thursday morning.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Waukegan Fire Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 5:15 a.m. Thursday to the area of Green Bay Road and Johns Manville Avenue in unincorporated Waukegan for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said sheriffโ€™s deputies arrived and located two vehicles with extensive damage.

A preliminary investigation shows a Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by a 43-year-old Streamwood man, was traveling southbound on Green Bay Road in the area of Johns Manville Avenue.

The Ford crossed the double yellow median markings in the center of the road and drove into the northbound lanes of traffic, Covelli said.

The Ford struck a northbound Toyota Camry head-on, driven by a 58-year-old Waukegan woman.

A front-seat passenger in the Toyota, whose age is unknown pending identification, was killed in the crash, Covelli said.

The driver and a third occupant in the Toyota, whose identities are also pending, were transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford was also transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Covelli said that alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash.

The Lake County Coronerโ€™s Office responded to the scene and will conduct an autopsy on the victim Thursday.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriffโ€™s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit and the Lake County Coronerโ€™s Office.
