Police are investigating after a man in his 20s was shot Friday afternoon while standing on the sidewalk of a residential street in Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 12 p.m. Friday to the 500 block of Cummings Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a man, who is a Waukegan resident in his 20s, had been shot.

The victim told officers he was outside on the sidewalk area when he was shot.

Paramedics transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Florip said the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

A light-colored SUV was possibly the offending vehicle but information on the offenders was not immediately known.

Florip said the motive for the shooting was not known and the case remains under active investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
