A Waukegan man has been charged with firing shots during an armed robbery in a strip mall in Waukegan earlier this month, court documents show.
Sotero Sanchez Jr., 18, of the 1700 block of Jenkinson Court in Waukegan, was charged with two counts of armed robbery and four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
A criminal complaint filed in Lake County Circuit Court alleges Sanchez was armed with a firearm on May 12.
Sanchez allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint just before 7:30 p.m. at 2425 Grand Avenue in Waukegan, the complaint said.
Sanchez discharged the firearm during the robbery, the complaint said.
Officers with the Waukegan Police Department arrested Sanchez in the 1800 block of Grand Avenue early in the morning on May 13.
Officers located Sanchez in possession of a loaded handgun and he did not have a FOID or CCL card, the complaint said.
Lake County Judge Daniel Jasica ordered the man held in the Lake County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
Sanchez was released from custody after posting the $20,000 cash required to be released, court records show.
Jasica also ordered Sanchez to have no contact with the victim or his residence as part of his bond conditions.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 8.
