Police are investigating after a 37-year-old man was shot in the back during a shooting in North Chicago Thursday evening, officials said.

The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 6 p.m. Thursday to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Kristan Avenue for a report of a shooting victim.

North Chicago Police Department Lt. Curtis Brame told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a 37-year-old man was found shot.

While the man was found near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Kristan Avenue, Brame said the shooting occurred in the 1500 block of 20th Street.

The man, who is a North Chicago resident, sustained a single gunshot wound to his back.

Paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.

Brame said Friday that the victim’s injury was non-life-threatening and he was expected to be released from the hospital.

The North Chicago Police Department Investigations Division was called to investigate the shooting.

The motive for the shooting was not released and the incident remains under investigation.
