A man and a woman were hospitalized after being shot while attending a family gathering at a house in Waukegan Thursday evening, police said.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 7 p.m. Thursday to the 500 block of North Butrick Street in Waukegan for a report of a shooting.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that officers arrived to find a female victim shot.

 

The female victim, who is a Waukegan resident in her 40s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment and remains stable, Florip said.

A short time later, officers were notified about a man that arrived by car at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

The male victim, who is in his 30s and a Zion resident, had also been shot in the shooting on Butrick Street.

He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and remains stable, Florip said.

Florip said a white sedan was possibly involved and was seen fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed after the shooting.

The victims were attending a family gathering and were outside of the house when the shooting occurred. The motive for it is unknown.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
