
Police are investigating after a man in his 20s was shot while near a business in Waukegan Tuesday evening, officials said.
The North Chicago Fire Department and North Chicago Police Department initially responded around 10:23 p.m. Tuesday to the 800 block of 10th Street on the border of Waukegan and North Chicago.
North Chicago officers received notification from ShotSpotter technology regarding shots fired in the area.
Officers arrived to find a person shot in the north alley behind Panaderia La Azteca, 814 10th Street in Waukegan.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department were also dispatched to the scene.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the victim is in his 20s.
Paramedics transported the man to an area hospital where he was rushed into surgery.
The victim’s condition was not immediately known but his injuries were serious, Florip said.
The suspect vehicle that fled the scene was believed to be a light-colored SUV.
The case remains under active investigation by the Waukegan Police Department’s Community Crimes Division.
