An Arlington Heights man has been sentenced to probation and time served for traveling to Crystal Lake to have sex with whom he believed to be a child.

Jose Sanchez-Vargas, 33, of the 900 block of West Rand Road in Arlington Heights, was charged with traveling to meet a minor, two counts of indecent solicitation of a child and grooming.

Sanchez-Vargas communicated over the internet with a person who he believed to be a child, according to a criminal complaint.

Sanchez-Vargas traveled to Crystal Lake on January 14 with the intent to commit a sex offense with the child, the complaint said.

He was arrested by the McHenry County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Human Trafficking Task Force and processed at the Crystal Lake Police Department that afternoon.

Sanchez-Vargas has been held at the McHenry County Jail on a $30,000 bond since his arrest.

On Wednesday, Sanchez-Vargas entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

He pleaded guilty to one count of indecent solicitation with intent to commit a sex act, a Class 3 felony.

As part of his deal, prosecutors dismissed Sanchez-Vargas’ additional charges.

McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge approved the plea deal and sentenced him to 180 days in the county jail with 180 days of credit for time already served.

Sanchez-Vargas was released from custody on Wednesday after the sentence.

Sanchez-Vargas will be on probation for two years and be required to undergo drug testing.

He will also be required to undergo sex offender treatment and register as a sex offender.
