A Marengo man was arrested after he allegedly shoved a concrete construction cylinder into a police officer, striking him in Marengo, court records show.

Robert S. Castiglia, 57, of the 300 block of Dietz Street in Marengo, was charged with one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer, a Class 2 felony.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said that Castiglia committed an aggravated battery to a Marengo police sergeant on Thursday.

Castiglia allegedly rolled a construction concrete cylinder on the ground, striking the police sergeant.

The cylinder, which weighed between 150-200 pounds, struck the officer on his right foot and shin area.

The complaint also said that the officer had warned Castiglia numerous times to stop advancing toward him with the object.

It is unknown what led up to the confrontation between the two.

Castiglia was transported to the McHenry County Jail after being arrested.

McHenry County Judge Christopher Harmon ordered Castiglia held on a $40,000 bond.

Castiglia remains held in the McHenry County Jail as of Saturday and would need to post $4,000 cash in order to be released.

A hearing to set the date for a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
