A motorcyclist was hospitalized after they crashed into the back of a sedan on Route 12 in Lakemoor Thursday morning, police said.

The Lakemoor Police Department and Wauconda Fire District responded around 6:40 a.m. Thursday to the area of Route 12 and Route 120 in Lakemoor for a report of a vehicle crash.

Lakemoor Police Department Public Information Officer Kevin Lyons told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a motorcycle was traveling southbound on Route 12 when it crashed into the rear of a sedan.

The motorcyclist was injured and paramedics transported them to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The motorcyclist continues to be treated in the hospital as of Thursday evening, Lyons said.

Police are continuing to obtain video from businesses along the Route 12 and Route 120 corridor to determine what happened.

Lyons said citations are expected once the investigation is complete.

Police are thankful for the many bystanders that stopped to help both drivers involved in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lakemoor Police Department.
