A Crystal Lake man was sentenced to three years in prison for communicating with a child online and exchanging sexually explicit images with her, court records show.

Alexander S. Leiras, 33, of the 100 block of Pine Court Court in Crystal Lake, was arrested in June 2021 by the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Court records show Leiras was charged with child pornography, indecent solicitation of a child through the internet, grooming and exploitation.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said that Leiras possessed sexually explicit images of a female juvenile.

He also sent the girl sexually explicit images of himself, the complaint said.

Court records said that the allegations occurred on May 8, 2021.

Leiras was found in possession of marijuana and Adderall when police arrested him.

He was additionally charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of cannabis.

A judge ordered the man held in jail on a $100,000 bond at the time of his arrest.

Leiras, who has been held in jail since his arrest, recently entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

He pleaded guilty on June 15 to one count of attempted child pornography, a Class 2 felony, in exchange for prosecutors dismissing all of his other charges.

McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt sentenced Leiras to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Leiras will also be required to pay $3,064 in court fines and fees.
