Police arrested an Aurora man who allegedly attempted to carjack someone at the Walmart in Waukegan shortly after he tried to carjack a woman near Lake Forest Hospital.
The Lake Forest Police Department responded on June 15 to a reported attempted carjacking in the 1200 block of North Westmoreland Road in Lake Forest.
The victim reported a male white with a dark beard, wearing a dark baseball cap, tried to carjack her, police said.
The woman was waiting to turn into the Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center.
Police said the woman reported the offender was driving a dark truck when he pulled next to her, displayed a metallic object and demanded her vehicle.
The victim drove away and the offender left the area.
Officers were able to obtain a photo and registration of the vehicle from hospital cameras.
They determined the 2004 Nissan Titan driven by the offender was taken in Aurora earlier in the day in a vehicular hijacking.
While Lake Forest police were investigating the incident, the offender was taken into custody by the Waukegan Police Department.
Waukegan officers arrested the offender, identified as 28-year-old Isaias Curiel‐Barraza, after he tried carjacking someone at the Walmart in Waukegan immediately after fleeing Lake Forest, police said.
Curiel‐Barraza, of the 600 block of South LaSalle Street in Aurora, was charged with three counts of attempted vehicular hijacking, two counts of assault, three counts of disorderly conduct, reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and driving without a license.
Curiel‐Barraza remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
He would need to post $15,000 cash in order to be released.
A court hearing is next scheduled for July 12.
