Two juveniles who stole an SUV in Highland Park were arrested after they tried fleeing from the vehicle when OnStar remotely shut it down in North Chicago, police said.
The Highland Park Police Department responded to a residence in a neighborhood on the east side of the city early Monday morning.
Highland Park Deputy Police Chief William Bonaguidi told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the homeowner woke up after hearing their dogs barking.
The homeowner looked outside and noticed their newer-model Chevrolet Tahoe was missing.
Officers coordinated with OnStar to locate the car and eventually shut it down remotely, Bonaguidi said.
Two offenders fled from the Chevrolet in the area of Route 41 and Route 137 in North Chicago before 5 a.m. Monday.
Officers pursued the two juveniles on foot and captured them after a short chase, Bonaguidi said.
Multiple police departments, including Lake Forest, North Chicago and Libertyville, assisted Highland Park officers at the scene.
Bonaguidi said no injuries were reported and the two offenders have been petitioned on charges to juvenile court.
Bonaguidi added that additional information on the case was not available for release due to the case involving juveniles.
