Police are investigating the death of a middle-aged man who was found suffering from an “obvious injury” on the rear property of Crystal Lake Central High School Wednesday evening.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 6:48 p.m. to the rear property of Crystal Lake Central High School, 45 West Franklin Avenue in Crystal Lake.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann said officers received a call for a male subject experiencing a mental health crisis.

Officers arrived and located a male subject, approximately 30 years old, with “obvious signs of injury,” Neumann said.

Paramedics quickly determined the man was deceased.

According to fire department radio traffic, the man was reportedly found suffering from a gunshot wound in an area off of Mary Lane Court.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The case is considered an active investigation. “While we are still gathering evidence, we are sure there is no danger to the public as a result of this incident,” Neumann said.
