A woman was cited and hospitalized and a man was also hospitalized after a car hit a truck, causing the truck to roll over on Route 47 near Hebron.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District responded around 4:10 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of Route 47 and Thayer Road in unincorporated Hebron.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, Hebron Police Department and Mercyhealth MD-1 also responded to the scene.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Porfirio Campos-Cruz said the crash involved a 2018 Dodge Journey and a 2004 Peterbilt T-Motors truck.
A preliminary investigation showed that the Dodge, driven by a 79-year-old Woodstock woman, was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection.
The Dodge entered the intersection as the Peterbilt, driven by a 25-year-old Aurora man, was traveling southbound on Route 47 with the right of way, Campos-Cruz said.
The Peterbilt driver attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to avoid it, resulting in a crash between the two vehicles.
The Peterbilt truck skidded on the southbound lane and lost control before rolling over.
The roadway was closed for approximately four hours due to damage to the roadway that required the Illinois Department of Transportation to respond for repairs, Campos-Cruz said.
The 79-year-old woman was issued a citation for failing to yield at an intersection.
Both drivers were transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries.
Campos-Cruz said both drivers were wearing seatbelts and neither driver was asked to participate in any alcohol testing.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
