Police are searching for a suspect who was armed with a handgun and robbed a Chinese restaurant of money Thursday afternoon in Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 12:15 p.m. Thursday to Ming Toy Restaurant, 3139 North Lewis Avenue in Waukegan.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner officers received a call for an armed robbery.

Officers learned that a male Hispanic, possibly in his 20s, entered the restaurant.

The man displayed a handgun and took an unknown amount of cash during the robbery.

The suspect, who was possibly wearing a pink shirt and white mask, fled the scene on foot, Florip said.

It is unknown if the suspect eventually got into a getaway vehicle or continued fleeing the scene on foot.

No injuries were reported during the incident. Florip said the case remains open and active.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating.
