
A 66-year-old Tennessee man died at the hospital after his car was rear-ended by another man, who was seriously injured, in Gurnee Saturday morning.
The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded at 5:39 a.m. Saturday to Stearns School Road and Dilleys Road in Gurnee for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Officers arrived and found a 2017 Cadillac XTS and a 2013 Mazda CX5 with extensive damage, Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said.
The preliminary investigation showed the Mazda was driven by a 66-year-old man and occupied by a 64-year-old woman, both from Crossville, Tennessee.
The Mazda was traveling eastbound on Stearns School Road when the Cadillac, driven by a 36-year-old North Chicago man, rear-ended it, Gaylor said.
Paramedics transported the 66-year-old man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he died.
The 64-year-old passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center, Gaylor said.
The 36-year-old man driving the Cadillac sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was requested to assist in the crash investigation, Gaylor said.
The intersection was closed for around four hours while investigators worked the scene.
An autopsy by the Lake County Coroner’s Office will be scheduled, Gaylor added.
The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department.
