A 64-year-old woman died after she crossed the road on her bicycle in front of an SUV and was struck in Green Oaks Sunday morning, the sheriff’s office said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:30 a.m. Sunday to the area of Saint Marys Road and Terre Drive in unincorporated Libertyville for a vehicle versus bicycle crash with injuries.

Deputies arrived and found a 64-year-old Green Oaks woman with significant injuries, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

The preliminary investigation showed an 81-year-old Libertyville man was driving his 2005 Toyota 4Runner southbound on Saint Marys Road approaching Terre Drive.

The 64-year-old woman on her bicycle crossed Saint Marys Road from the west side of Terre Drive and traveled directly in front of the Toyota, Covelli said.

The 81-year-old man was unable to stop in time and hit the bicyclist.
