A man was arrested after he allegedly fired several shots toward a vehicle occupied by a family during a road rage incident near Marengo late last month.

Carson Maxwell, 23, of the 100 block of South Street in Marengo, was charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony, and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony.

On June 26, Maxwell is alleged to have fired his gun intentionally towards an occupied vehicle in the area of River Road and Thorne Road near Marengo, a criminal complaint said.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kevin Byrnes told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that deputies responded and learned a road rage incident occurred.

Maxwell allegedly fired several rounds toward a vehicle, which was occupied by the victim and their family.

He then fled the scene, Byrnes said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division developed leads and identified Maxwell as the suspect.

He was arrested on a previous arrest warrant from the Marengo Police Department and was additionally charged for the incident, Byrnes added.

The gun Maxwell used was recovered and placed into evidence.

McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt set Maxwell’s bond at $100,000.

He remains held at the McHenry County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 22 for a preliminary hearing.
