A young child suffered life-threatening injuries after being run over by a golf cart near Marengo Saturday morning, fire officials said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts were called around 9:54 a.m. Saturday to Lehman’s Lakeside RV Resort, 19608 Harmony Road in unincorporated Marengo.

Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said a juvenile was reported to have been run over by a golf cart.

Crews arrived and located the child at the RV office suffering from a serious head injury, Vucha said.

The child is approximately three years old, according to fire department radio traffic.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested to the scene but they were unavailable due to inclement weather.

The child was quickly transported by ambulance to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

Vucha said the juvenile suffered life-threatening injuries. The victim’s condition was not immediately known.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office conducted an accident investigation at the scene.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
