A man was arrested after he allegedly pulled a knife and threatened to kill his mother and step-father in Waukegan because he was angry someone ate his pizza, prosecutors said.
Brandon Rocha-Ortiz, 26, of Waukegan, was charged with six counts of enhanced domestic battery, a Class 4 felony.
Waukegan police officers responded July 16 to a residence in the 4100 block of Brentwood Lane in Waukegan for a domestic battery call.
Officers learned from multiple witnesses that Rocha-Ortiz was heavily intoxicated and upset that someone had eaten his pizza, Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Brooke Wanzenberg said.
Rocha-Ortiz allegedly began fighting his brother and struck him in the face.
Rocha-Ortiz then grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his mother and step-father, Wanzenberg said during a bond hearing.
The man allegedly struck his mother in the face and pushed her, causing a laceration on her leg.
Rocha-Ortiz also struck his step-father, causing him to have a swollen face, Wanzenberg said.
The man’s mother and brother had to be taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan for treatment of their injuries.
Wanzenberg said that Rocha-Ortiz has a previous domestic battery conviction in Lake County.
Officers, who also reported the man was heavily intoxicated, arrested him at the scene.
Lake County Judge Veronica O’Malley ordered Rocha-Ortiz held on a $60,000 bond.
He remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $6,000 cash to be released.
