Three people were shot, including one in critical condition, during a shooting in broad daylight in the parking lot of a liquor store in Beach Park, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday to the 38900 block of North Lewis Avenue in Beach Park for a report of a shooting.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies quickly arrived but did not find any victims at the scene.

One of the responding deputies located a vehicle pulled to the side of the road in the area of Wadsworth Road and Gabriel Avenue in Beach Park.

The three victims and the suspect spoke for a period of time when an argument ensued.

The suspect fired numerous shots at the victims, striking them as they were in their vehicle, Covelli said.

The offender fled the scene in a vehicle and the victims also fled the scene in their vehicle.

All three were transported to area hospitals by ambulance.

Two of the shooting victims were adult men. One remains in critical condition and one remains in serious condition.

The third victim is an adult woman, whose condition has since been stabilized.

Covelli said the shooting does not appear to be gang-related but it was not believed to be random.
