A 3-year-old boy has died in the hospital after he suffered severe injuries after he was run over by a golf cart at an RV park near Marengo, officials said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts were called around 9:55 a.m. Saturday to Lehman’s Lakeside RV Resort, 19608 Harmony Road in unincorporated Marengo.

The sheriff’s office said on Monday that a preliminary investigation shows a motorized golf cart was being operated on private property.

The golf cart was driven by a juvenile female and had three juvenile passengers when it hit a boy.

Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said the juvenile was reported to have been run over by the golf cart.

Crews arrived and located the child at the RV office suffering from a serious head injury and other various injuries, Vucha said.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested to the scene but they were unavailable due to inclement weather.

The child was quickly transported by ambulance to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

Vucha said the juvenile suffered life-threatening injuries.

The victim was later flown to the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago in critical condition, the sheriff’s office said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the victim was Jackson Evans, 3, of Genoa.

Evans was pronounced dead at the hospital late Monday afternoon, the medical examiner’s office said. An official cause and manner of death are pending.

The juveniles riding the golf cart were uninjured.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

The McHenry County Sheriffโ€™s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit conducted an accident investigation at the scene.
