A Chicago woman was killed early Friday morning after the car she was driving collided with a semi-tractor-trailer truck in Zion, police said.

The Zion Fire and Rescue Department and Zion Police Department responded around 12:30 a.m. Friday to the intersection of Lewis Avenue and 33rd Street in Zion.

Zion Police Department Lt. Christopher Sweeting said officers received a call for a traffic crash with injuries at the intersection.

Officers arrived to find a crash involving two vehicles, a passenger car and a semi-truck pulling a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the passenger car was a 31-year-old Chicago woman, Sweeting said.

The woman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It is unknown if anyone else was inside the passenger car.

Police did not say how the crash was caused or if it has been determined who was at fault.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy on the woman, whose identity is being withheld.

The incident remains under investigation by the Zion Police Department and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
