The decomposing body found inside an occupied apartment in Waukegan on Thursday has been identified as a missing 22-year-old woman, the coroner said.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 1 p.m. Thursday to the 100 block of Drew Lane in Waukegan for a report of a deceased person.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip said the call came in to the police department from a person that went into the apartment and found the body.
Officers and paramedics confirmed the subject was deceased.
Florip said the body was “decomposing.” The apartment was not vacant.
The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division was called to the scene to investigate.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has transported the body to their office for an autopsy and identification.
The subject was identified as Bianca Haas, 22, of Mount Prospect.
Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said an autopsy was conducted Friday on Haas but a cause and manner of death were still pending further studies.
The Waukegan Police Department issued an alert on social media in June asking for help in locating Haas.
Haas was last heard from in early February. She was known to frequent the Waukegan and Park City areas, police said at the time.
The Waukegan Police Department said Haas was officially reported missing in April in a different police jurisdiction.
Florip said in June that Haas was reported missing by one of her parents to police in Mount Prospect.
Her parent told police that Haas was last seen at the Drew Lane apartment in Waukegan.
It is unknown if police are seeking any suspects in the case.
