The coroner’s office has identified a North Chicago man who died after he was shot multiple times during a shooting that left two others wounded in Beach Park.
An autopsy performed Thursday showed that Christopher Williams, 22, of North Chicago, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday to the 38900 block of North Lewis Avenue in Beach Park for a report of a shooting.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies quickly arrived but did not find any victims at the scene.
One of the responding deputies located a vehicle pulled to the side of the road in the area of Wadsworth Road and Gabriel Avenue in Beach Park.
Inside the vehicle, three people, including Williams, were found with gunshot wounds.
A preliminary investigation shows the three victims met the shooting suspect in the parking lot of a business in the strip mall, Covelli said.
The three victims and the suspect spoke for a period of time when an argument ensued.
The suspect fired numerous shots at the victims, striking them as they were in their vehicle, Covelli said.
The offender fled the scene in a vehicle and the victims also fled the scene in their vehicle.
All three were transported to area hospitals by ambulance.
Williams was transported in critical condition and a second man was in serious condition.
The third victim, an adult woman, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Williams died on Thursday at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Newton confirmed to Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
Covelli said the shooting does not appear to be gang-related but it was not believed to be random.
Sheriff’s detectives continue to actively investigate the incident.
