A police officer and two others were hospitalized after a squad car responding to a call was involved in a crash with another vehicle in Zion, officials said.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ari Briskman told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Thursday.
A Zion police officer was traveling southbound on Horeb Avenue in a marked squad car.
The squad had its emergency lights and siren activated.
The officer was responding to assist another law enforcement agency in a vehicle pursuit, Briskman said.
As the squad car entered the intersection at Route 173 and Horeb Avenue, it collided with a Jeep Cherokee.
The Jeep had been traveling westbound on Route 173.
The police officer and two occupants of the Jeep were all transported to a local hospital, Briskman said.
They suffered minor injuries and have since been released.
The Zion Police Department requested the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the investigation of the crash due to the involvement of their officer.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
