Transportation crews Monday morning closed Butterfield Road at a railroad crossing in Vernon Hills while crews repair the crossing for several days.

The Canadian National Railroad informed the Lake County Division of Transportation of the closure.

The Lake County Division of Transportation said the closure is occurring at the CN’s Elgin, Joliet and Eastern railroad crossing on Butterfield Road north of Route 60 and south of Allanson Road.

The closure of the railroad crossing began at 9 a.m. Monday.

The road will reopen late in the afternoon on Friday, county officials said.

Officials did not say what type of repairs are taking place.

The railroad crossing will be closed to all traffic.

A detour route on Route 60 to Route 45 to Route 176 is in place.

Local traffic will be allowed from Route 60 to the railroad crossing and from Route 176 to the railroad crossing.
