Aron Acosta, 22, of Round Lake Beach.

A man allegedly in possession of a rifle was arrested after he tried fleeing from officers during a traffic stop in Round Lake Beach, prosecutors said.

Aron Acosta, 22, of the 300 block of Meadow Green Lane in Round Lake Beach, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting a peace officer.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Olaide Adeniran said Round Lake Beach officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Friday.

The vehicle had failed to use a turn signal and also had tinted windows.

Acosta ran from the scene of the traffic stop and officers chased after him, Adeniran said.

Officers were able to apprehend Acosta. They smelled an odor of cannabis coming from the stopped vehicle.

A search of the vehicle led them to find a .22 long rifle and 12 grams of cannabis, Adeniran said.
