Authorities have identified a 17-year-old boy who was killed in a multiple-vehicle crash in Lake in the Hills. A candlelight vigil is expected to take place later this week.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire-Rescue Department responded around 10:06 p.m. on August 2 to Rakow Road between McHenry and Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills.
Police said that a vehicle was reported to have rolled over.
The crash involved a Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra and Volkswagen Passat.
Occupants in the Volkswagen and Nissan sustained injuries in the crash, police said.
The front seat passenger of the Volkswagen, a juvenile, was transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
The juvenile was identified by the coroner’s office as Riely Teuerle, 17, of Lake in the Hills.
The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to the Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital in unknown condition.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to Northwestern Huntley Hospital also in unknown condition.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department shut down eastbound Rakow Road at McHenry Avenue while a crash investigation was conducted.
The roadway was re-opened just after 6 a.m. Wednesday.
A candlelight celebration of life is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Towne Park, 100 Jefferson Street in Algonquin.
“We are all in shock at the loss of this amazing young man. He was sweet, funny, loving and had a great future a head of him. I’ll never understand why his life was taken,” Teuerle’s aunt, Sandie Passuntino-Nantz, said in a social media post.
The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Accident Investigation Unit and the Lake in the Hills Police Department.
