Police say they are searching for multiple suspects wanted for committing six smash-and-grab burglaries at businesses in Vernon Hills early Monday morning.
Vernon Hills Police Department Crime Prevention Officer Jeff Hemesath said his department is investigating the string of commercial burglaries.
Officers responded around 3:55 a.m. Monday to a commercial burglary at Rivertree Court shopping center in the 700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills.
Officers discovered entry was made by breaking a front glass door of the business.
A neighboring business was also found burglarized.
Two burglaries were later discovered at businesses in the Hawthorn Hills Square shopping center, Hemesath said.
Two additional burglaries were also discovered at Hawthorn Village Commons.
In all of the burglaries, the suspects gained entry by breaking a glass door, Hemesath said. Once inside they took merchandise and cash.
Charlie Garfinkle, a sales associate at Artisan Vapor and CBD, 701 North Milwaukee Avenue, told Lake and McHenry County Scanner his business was among the ones burglarized.
Six suspects were captured on surveillance video entering the business.
They used a trash can outside the store to break the front glass door. The suspects stole products and fled the scene.
Approximately $2,500 in damage, from repair and product loss, was reported at Artisan Vapor, Garfinkle said.
Garfinkle said the BBQ Chicken restaurant next door, along with a Potbelly and a jewelry store were among the other businesses burglarized. He did not know the names of the other two businesses.
No arrests have been made and the incidents remain under investigation, Hemesath said.
Anyone with information regarding the incidents should contact the Vernon Hills Police Department at 847-362-4449.
