Police are seeking the public’s help in locating an 83-year-old man, who is possibly in the beginning stages of dementia, after he went missing from Algonquin.
Joseph Nies, 83, was last seen at his residence in Algonquin around 9 a.m. Thursday.
The Algonquin Police Department said Nies has not returned home and has not contacted his family.
The man is believed to be driving a 2010 dark green Lexus LS460 with an Illinois license plate of 1049095.
Nies is described as being 5-foot-5 and weighing approximately 170 pounds.
He has blue eyes, gray hair and a fair complexion.
He was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, gray shorts and brown Sketcher shoes.
Algonquin Police Department Detective Sergeant Robert Salazar said investigative leads indicate Nies may be in the area of Alton, Illinois or Missouri.
Salazar said that Nies may be in the beginning stages of dementia and therefore unaware of where he is.
A Silver Alert, also known as an endangered missing person advisory, has been issued statewide.
Anyone with information should contact the Algonquin Police Department at 847-658-4531 or call 911.
