Authorities said that Lake County Sheriff Canine Dax located a missing man armed with a knife in a field near Lake Villa after he harmed himself.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called last night to the area of Route 59 and Monaville Road in unincorporated Lake Villa.
A man had harmed himself and went missing in the area.
He was armed with a knife and fled on foot, threatening further self-harm, the sheriff’s office said.
Dax arrived and immediately picked up the man’s scent.
Dax tracked to a field where the man was located.
The man was holding a knife to his neck and sheriff’s deputies were able to deescalate the situation, the sheriff’s office said.
The man was taken into protective custody and transported to a local hospital.
The sheriff’s office said the man was treated for his injuries and received mental health assistance.
Dax is one of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office’s eight canines.
The agency announced earlier on Monday that they recently received their newest canine, Tera, who is an Electronic Storage Detection canine.
