A 57-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to the hospital after crashing into a car that failed to yield on Route 173 near Richmond Thursday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Richmond Township Fire Protection District responded around 12:20 p.m. Thursday to Route 173 and Keystone Road in unincorporated Richmond for a report of a crash involving a car and motorcycle.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Communications Specialist Emily Matusek told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a 57-year-old Loves Park man was driving eastbound on Route 173 on a 2010 Harvey Davidson Fatboy.
An 18-year-old McHenry woman was driving southbound on Keystone Road in a white 2017 Nissan Versa.
The woman stopped at the intersection, then failed to yield the right of way to the motorcyclist, causing a crash, Matusek said.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested for the man and he was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where his condition stabilized.
The woman was not injured, Matusek said.
All roads leading to the intersection were closed during the crash investigation.
Deputies issued her a citation for failure to yield.
Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the incident, Matusek said.
