A 55-year-old man is facing over a dozen charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a child who was under the age of 13 in Winthrop Harbor.
Johnny G. Farias, 55, of the 800 block of Landon Avenue in Winthrop Harbor, was initially charged late last month with five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
A Lake County grand jury on Wednesday returned a 15-count indictment against Farias charging him with 11 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
A criminal complaint alleges Farias committed numerous sex acts with a child, who was under the age of 13, and touched her inappropriately.
Court records show the assaults occurred over the span of several years starting in 2011.
The Winthrop Harbor Police Department investigated the incidents and arrested Farias on July 30.
Lake County Judge Elizabeth Rochford ordered the man held on a $350,000 bond, meaning he would need $35,000 cash in order to be released.
Farias remains held in the Lake County Jail as of Friday morning.
Farias has been ordered to have no contact with the victim, their residence and any minors under the age of 18, court records show.
An arraignment hearing is scheduled for August 26.
