Police have not released details after a person was shot and transported to the hospital in unknown condition Sunday morning in Winthrop Harbor.

The shooting happened in the 400 block of Sheridan Road around 7:45 a.m. Sunday.

A victim from the shooting showed up at the Winthrop Harbor Police Department.

Paramedics transported them to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to fire radio traffic. The victim’s injuries were not fatal.

According to an Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN) alert broadcasted to area police departments, the suspect vehicle was a newer-model black Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Jeep fled the scene northbound on Sheridan Road from 4th Street, the alert said.

The Village of Winthrop Harbor said in a statement that it was “an isolated incident.”

Winthrop Harbor officials said there is not believed to be a danger to the community.

“The full resources of the Winthrop Harbor Police Department and partnering law enforcement agencies are investigating this unfortunate incident,” the village said in their statement.

It is unclear what led to the shooting or if any suspects are in custody.

Lake and McHenry County Scanner sought comment from Winthrop Harbor Police Chief Edward Mohn on the incident but Mohn deferred comment to the village’s manager.
