Officials say motorists should expect delays as crews shut down a portion of Route 22 in Lincolnshire and Buffalo Grove for the week due to railroad crossing repairs.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said that the repairs are being completed by the Canadian National Railroad to a crossing on Half Day Road east of Prairie Road in Buffalo Grove.

Officials did not say what type of repairs the crossing needed.

The work requires a full road closure starting 9 a.m. today.

Route 22 will be closed from Prairie Road to Milwaukee Avenue.

The work is expected to be completed by 7 a.m. Sunday.

A detour will direct motorists to Prairie Road, Aptakisic Road and Milwaukee Avenue.

“Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area,” IDOT said in a statement.

IDOT urged drivers to pay attention to detour signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
