Major traffic backups were reported on Route 176 near Crystal Lake after a t-bone crash left two people hospitalized Wednesday, fire officials said.
The Nunda Rural Fire Protection District and Prairie Grove Police Department responded around 4:52 p.m. Wednesday to Route 176 and Valley View Road in Prairie Grove for a vehicle crash.
Nunda Rural Fire Protection District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said that the incident was upgraded for an additional ambulance from the Cary Fire Protection District because of a report of multiple people injured.
Firefighters arrived on the scene within six minutes and found two vehicles in the intersection with moderate damage.
The driver of the small convertible sedan was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with “moderate,” non-life-threatening injuries, Vucha said.
The Volkswagen minivan was occupied by three people.
A woman from the Volkswagen was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with minor injuries.
No other injuries were reported, Vucha said.
Major traffic backups were reported in both directions of Route 176 during the incident.
The roadway was reopened in all directions approximately 40 minutes later at 5:30 p.m.
The Prairie Grove Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
