Police arrested a man who allegedly threw a victim to the ground, causing them to hit their head on a rail outside of an entertainment venue in McHenry.

Daniel A. Shafer, 48, of the 600 block of Whitmore Trail in McHenry, was charged with aggravated battery in a public place, a Class 3 felony, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said the incident happened Tuesday at The Vixen, 1208 North Green Street in McHenry.

Shafer allegedly grabbed a 34-year-old man around his torso and threw him onto the sidewalk, the complaint said.

The victim struck his head on a metal rail, causing a laceration to the back of his head.

Paramedics transported the victim to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for treatment.

The complaint said Shafer also threw an alcoholic beverage can at another man, who was standing at the front door of the venue.

Officers with the McHenry Police Department arrested Shafer just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis ordered Shafer held on a $20,000 bond.

Shafer was released from the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday after posting 10% of his bond.

A status of preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 21.
