A person of interest is in custody after officers found two people dead inside an apartment in Highland Park during a wellness check call Wednesday morning.

The Highland Park Fire Department and Highland Park Police Department responded around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to Albion Highland Park, 1850 Green Bay Road.

Highland Park Communications Manager Amanda Civitello said emergency personnel responded to a call of a wellness check at an apartment in the building.

Police officers arrived and noticed what appeared to be blood under the door.

Officers forced entry into the unit and found two deceased individuals, Civitello said.

A person of interest was inside the apartment as well and they were taken into custody.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force sent evidence technicians to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Civitello said there is no known threat to public safety.

“As there is no threat to public safety and this is an active investigation, the City is not able to comment further on the investigation at this time,” Civitello said.

City officials are working with the on-site property manager to provide support to residents in the building.
