A man was arrested after he allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at a driver that rear-ended him at an intersection in North Chicago, prosecutors said.
Gathia Dunn, 38, of North Chicago, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault, reckless driving, following too closely, improper stop without signal and illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver.
A North Chicago police officer saw a driver rear-end Dunn’s car at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Forrestal Drive last Friday, Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Daly said during a bond hearing.
The driver that rear-ended Dunn told police that Dunn pointed a gun at them. No shots were fired.
Officers found an open container of alcohol and a loaded handgun with one round in the chamber inside Dunn’s vehicle, Daly said.
Dunn has a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card but he does not have a license to conceal carry a firearm, Daly said.
Prosecutors asked Lake County Judge Stacey Seneczko for a $75,000 bond, which was granted.
Dunn was released on Saturday from the Lake County Jail, jail records show.
A status hearing was held on Wednesday and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 20, court records show.
