The sheriff’s office said a 30-year-old was found dead along the railroad tracks near Landings Airport in Huntley after being hit by a train sometime on Sunday.

The Huntley Fire Protection District and Kane County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:05 p.m. Sunday to Landings Condominium Airport, 19N088 Aztec Lane in unincorporated Huntley.

Kane County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Patrick Gengler told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the incident involved a male being struck by a Union Pacific train.

The victim, a 30-year-old man from Huntley, was found deceased near the train tracks, which are east of the airport.

The train that found the man’s body was not the train that struck him, Gengler said.

It is believed the 30-year-old was hit sometime between 3 a.m. and 9:40 p.m. Sunday.

The train that struck the man likely did not realize it because it was never reported until late Sunday.

There were no witnesses to the incident but it appears foul play was not involved, Gengler said.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

A death investigation continues by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
