An 18-year-old died Tuesday morning after someone shot him in the head at a townhome complex in North Chicago Monday evening, authorities said.

The North Chicago Police Department responded around 10:45 p.m. Monday to the 2600 block of Spruce Drive for a report of shots fired.

North Chicago officials said officers arrived and found a man who had been shot in the head at the Brookstone and Regency at Cole Park complex.

The North Chicago Fire Department was called to the scene.

Officers performed CPR on the victim and were able to get a pulse, North Chicago officials said.

Paramedics transported the man by ambulance to a local hospital in grave condition, according to Lake County Major Crime Task Force Spokesman Christopher Covelli.

He was pronounced dead Tuesday early morning, according to the coroner’s office.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called to the scene to assist in the investigation, Covelli said.

No one is in custody and the incident remains under investigation by the North Chicago Police Department and Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
