Authorities have released the identity of an 18-year-old man who died on Tuesday after a gunman shot him in the head in North Chicago Monday evening.
An autopsy showed that DaShawn Brown, 18, of North Chicago, died as a result of a single gunshot wound, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton.
The North Chicago Police Department responded around 10:45 p.m. Monday to the 2600 block of Spruce Drive for a report of shots fired.
North Chicago officials said officers arrived and found Brown, who had been shot in the head at the Brookstone and Regency at Cole Park complex.
The North Chicago Fire Department was called to the scene.
Officers performed CPR on Brown and were able to get a pulse, North Chicago officials said.
Paramedics transported the man by ambulance to a local hospital in grave condition, according to Lake County Major Crime Task Force Spokesman Christopher Covelli.
Brown was pronounced dead Tuesday early morning, according to the coroner’s office. An autopsy was performed Wednesday.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called to the scene to assist in the investigation, Covelli said.
No one is believed to be in custody and the incident remains under investigation by the North Chicago Police Department and Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
