Police are investigating after a man was found dead in a ditch with serious injuries Thursday morning in Gurnee, officials said.

The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 10:26 a.m. Thursday to Delany Road and Grove Avenue in Gurnee.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said officers received a call for a possible deceased man in a ditch.

Officers arrived and discovered an African American male deceased, Gaylor said. The man had serious injuries.

Investigators with the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene and aided with the investigation.

Delany Road was closed in both directions for several hours during the investigation.

An autopsy is being scheduled with the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Crash investigators were at the scene but police did not say whether they believed the man had been hit by a vehicle or not.

The case remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department.
