The coroner’s office has identified a 31-year-old man from Waukegan who was found dead in a ditch from multiple injuries in Gurnee Thursday morning.

An autopsy showed that Anthony Hawkins, 31, of Waukegan, died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 10:26 a.m. Thursday to Delany Road and Grove Avenue in Gurnee.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said officers received a call for a possible deceased man in a ditch.

Officers arrived and discovered Hawkins deceased, Gaylor said. The man had serious injuries.

Investigators with the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene and aided with the investigation.

Delany Road was closed in both directions for several hours during the investigation.

An autopsy was performed by the Lake County Coroner’s Office on Friday.

Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said Hawkins’ injuries appear to be consistent with him being struck by a vehicle.

Crash investigators were at the scene but police have not said yet whether they believed the man had been hit by a vehicle.

The case remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department.
