A large section of Washington Street in Grayslake is shut down as police investigate after a person was shot near the College of Lake County Grayslake Campus.

A Lake and McHenry County Scanner photographer reported seeing multiple shell casings on the south side of Washington Street near Lancer Lane in Grayslake.

Police had put crime scene tape around part of the scene as they investigated Saturday morning into the afternoon.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force Spokesman Christopher Covelli said the Major Crime Task Force was called to the scene to investigate.

Covelli confirmed a person had been shot but their condition was not immediately available.

Multiple police agencies were called to the incident, including the Grayslake-Hainesville Police Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, College of Lake County Police and others.

Officers closed Washington Street between Atkinson Road and Route 45 to traffic.

As of 1:55 p.m. Saturday, the area remains shut down due to the ongoing investigation.
