Investigators said a resident was killed after he confronted a loud group on a beach near Lake Forest and a “violent confrontation” ensued Saturday morning.

The Highland Park Police Department received a call of an unconscious person around 5:10 a.m. Saturday in the 0-100 block of Cliff Road in Highland Park.

Officers arrived and found an adult male deceased near the shoreline of Lake Michigan.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force Spokesman Christopher Covelli said it was determined the location of the incident was Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve in Lake Forest, which is in the jurisdiction of the Lake County Forest Preserve Police.

Lake County Forest Preserve Police requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

Covelli said in an update Sunday morning that the deceased man was 45 years old and lives in the area.

The man went outside around 1 a.m. Saturday to speak with individuals who were being loud at Fort Sheridan Beach.

Covelli said the 45-year-old man made contact with the individuals and a violent confrontation ensued.

The 45-year-old died following the confrontation. His body was not discovered until hours later.

The individuals involved, a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old man, both sustained injuries in the incident.

They were transported to a hospital and are both speaking with investigators, Covelli said.

Lake County Forest Preserve Police and Lake County Major Crime Task Force investigators continue to investigate the incident.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the 45-year-old man yet.
