A state trooper performed CPR on a driver who was unresponsive after he lost control of his car and crashed into a wall on Interstate 94 near Waukegan Sunday evening.

The Gurnee Fire Department and Illinois State Police Department responded around 11:15 p.m. Sunday to Interstate 94 near O’Plaine Road in Waukegan for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Illinois State Police said District 15 troopers arrived to find a single vehicle involved.

A preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Interstate 94 at mile marker 12.5.

The vehicle was in lane four, which is the first lane from the right shoulder, state police said.

The driver of the Mercedes sedan lost control and the vehicle crossed the solid line on the right shoulder.

The Mercedes hit the concrete wall barrier and came to a rest on the right shoulder, state police said.

There was heavy rain at the time, state police noted.

A state trooper who arrived on the scene first found the driver unresponsive and began performing CPR.

Paramedics arrived and transported the driver to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Police did not provide an update on the driver’s condition.

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
