A student was taken to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries after getting off a school bus and running into a van in Algonquin Monday afternoon, school officials said.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Algonquin Police Department responded to the incident around 2:40 p.m. Monday at Woods Creek Lane and Greens View Drive in Algonquin.
District 300 students aboard bus route 268 were being transported home from school, according to the district.
A student exited the bus, ran across the road and collided with a van.
The school district said they were in contact with the student’s mother and police.
Both confirmed the student is safe and did not sustain significant injuries.
Paramedics transported the child by ambulance to a local hospital for observation and treatment.
The school district said that due to the nature of the event, some students aboard the bus may be upset and want to talk about it.
Resources, including social workers and school psychologists, were made available Tuesday, the school said in a message to parents.
