The sheriff’s office said that clerks at six establishments in Lake County were cited for selling alcohol to minors during recent compliance checks.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said they routinely conduct alcohol compliance checks at liquor-selling establishments in Lake County.

“The compliance checks are designed to ensure businesses vending alcohol are not selling to anyone under the age of 21,” Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.

Of the 54 establishments tested recently, six of them sold alcohol to someone under the age of 21.

The clerks in violation were ticketed for selling liquor to a minor. They are required to appear in Waukegan court.

Covelli said that notice of the violations was sent to their respective liquor commission jurisdictions.

Carl J. Elitz, 27, who is the clerk at CVS, located at 34344 Route 45 in Third Lake, was cited.
